Killerwhale safari at Offersøy.
In the autumn, we offer killerwhale – safari in the fjords surrounding Offersøy. When the herring arrive into Vestfjorden and Tysfjorden, the killerwhales follow. They hunt and eat a lot of herring every day and they are a fascinating scenery for visitors who want this exiting experience of nature.
Some facts about the killerwhales.
The killerwhales have always fascinated fishermen and seafarers. This greedy, toothed whales can achive a length of 9 meters and a weight of 9 tonns. It’s particular mark – the dorsal fin – can become over one meter on the males. The killerwhales lives in all the oceans on earth. They appear in greater or smaller flocks – usually families – and they live mostly on fish, but also squids, seals and other whales. In our oceans, the killerwhales copulate in autumn, and the baby-whales (about two meters long) are born about a year later.
